Michael Owen has been given the highly prized No.7 shirt at Manchester United, following in the footsteps of George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Christiano Ronaldo.

Many had expected a high double figure squad number for the striker who admits he “didn’t exactly set the world alight in the last year or so” at United’s first official press conference.

The iconic shirt should give the 29 year old a confidence boost, and a good reason to keep himself off the injury list and on the score sheet. With Alex Ferguson’s faith in the former England man, comes a great deal of expectation from the Red Devils fans.
